Mercedes Juan Musotto
BIO

A seasoned pianist and conductor, and winner of the 2012 Solti Foundation Award as well as the 2011 Mozarteum Argentino, Mercedes Juan Musotto was assistant conductor for James Conlon with LA Opera production of “Las Tres Mujeres de Jerusalém” by Carla Lucero in Spring 2022. 

 

A native of Argentina, Mercedes began piano studies at the National University of Cuyo’s School of Music and graduated from the National University of La Plata as a Bachelor of Music in Orchestra Conducting. She furthered her studies at the Teatro Colón Art College, where she received a Master of Music degree in Opera Conducting. From 2008 to 2012 she worked as coach, pianist & Assistant Conductor for the opera season at the Teatro Argentino in La Plata, Buenos Aires, as well as accompanist at the Teatro Argentino’s Opera Studio. She has extensive experience as conductor and pianist, performing in and around Argentina, North America, and Europe. She has worked alongside international Conductors such as Dante Anzolini, Rodolfo Fischer, Stefan Lano, Carlos Vieu, Mario Perusso, Facundo Agudín, Reinaldo Censabella, Tuglio Gagliardo Varas, Facundo Agudin, Mario Perusso, Javier Logioia Orbe, Guillermo Scarabino, Andres Juncos, Benjamin Pionnier, Stefan Lano, Sergio Monterisi, Erik Oña, Manuel Coves, among others.

 

Relocating to Los Angeles in 2013, she is currently the Conductor of the Santa Monica College Orchestra, and Musical Director and coach for the Opera Program at California State University Northridge. Under her leadership as Executive Producer and Musical Director CSUN Opera was awarded the 2021 National Opera Association best opera production division V for “L’enfant et les Sortilèges,” best opera production division VII for “Gianni Schicchi,” and the Kurt Weill Foundation college production grant for the 2021 CSUN Opera production of “Street Scene.”

Mercedes is thrilled to lead the Hollywood Orchestra for “Lettres & Mémoires Maria Callas,” with Monica Bellucci in December, 2022, and will be premiering the musical “The Everywhere of Her” by Velina Hasu Houston & Carla Lucero in March, 2023 at The Ebell of Los Angeles. “The Everywhere of Her” highlights three seemingly anonymous women who meet at an event celebrating Amelia Earhart as the first female to complete a trans-Atlantic flight and reveal themselves with profound consequences.
